The magnificent Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire was the stunning location for this years Heroes National Celebrity Golf Day organised by Your Golf Travel on St.Georges Day, 23rd April 2015.
A shot gun start on the Melbourne course saw plenty of action right from the start. Especially at the 2nd tee of the championship course, which provided players with an enjoyable & stunning challenge, crossing the River Lea.
Golf Day Gloss, one of the partners in the event, along with Colbornes Audi, part of Lookers Group plc were hosting the hole in one challenge out on the breathtaking 2nd hole offering a brand new Audi TT for anyone lucky enough to hole out from 181 yards over the water.
It’s here that David Seaman MBE, former professional football player for Arsenal & England led the way with the first shot of the day, an amazing strike which landed him within a couple of feet from the pin. Of course David gave it the stylish, 1, 2 & tapped in his putt to get a birdie on the card to kick off the scoring!
The sun shone and spirits were high as the celebrity teams enjoyed & embraced this fantastic day in support of Help for Heroes Charity. They were led by the charities Ambassador, Georgie Bingham, radio & television present who is best known for hosting Weekend Sports Breakfast on TalkSPORT. Many former professional football players took part in the event, including John Salako, Lee Bowyer, Clive Allen & Matthew Etherington. Players also included Kriss Akabusi, former sprint, hurdling track & field athlete & the very gorgeous Zoe Hardman, British TV presenter & actress who incidentally is an amazing golfer. She managed to clear the water with her amazing shot towards the green in style. Something that quite impressed me as a 5’ 2’’ golfer!
As well as the hole in one challenge, there were various challenges around the course. These included ‘Beat The Pro’ & our very own ShirtSmart Challenge ‘The Loo Chip Challenge’ all providing added fun & excitement & certainly helped the donations to Help for Heroes throughout the day. Of course there were refreshments on the way round, very welcome Pimms at the halfway house & champagne on the 18th, which leads back to the magnificent Hall & then short ferry ride to the infamous 18th green.
The day continued into a gloriously sunny evening of drinks on the terrace, music from the band Soul Intention, followed by a fantastic dinner and a very successful fun evening of fundraising.
Partners also included Cleveland Golf, Srixon, Vpar, Colbornes Audi part of Lookers Group, Barrington Ayre & Cignet.
GDG would like to thank Rachel Turner Head of Events at Your Golf Travel, The World’s Largest Golf Travel Company, for letting us partner the event, it was a pleasure to be involved & we really look forward to hear how much was raised!
